SELF HELP STRATEGIES – ARE THESE APPLICABLE TO HELP COUPLES ‘AFTER THE AFFAIR’? AC Hotel Room: Montjuic Relationships outside of stable relationships are not uncommon. In many cases there may be a one-night affair but for many there may be multiple affairs or long standing affairs. In many circumstances the unfaithful partner is found out or admits to their partner after managing much guilt. A number of interventions may be valuable in helping couples who present to clinicians with this scenario. Some of these can be administered using established couples relationship therapies adopting a number of different clinical approaches. Self help is increasingly being seen as a valuable and efficient way forward for the future delivery of certain psychotherapeutic interventions. Kevan Wylie is a Consultant in Sexual Medicine and an accredited sexual and relationship psychotherapist practicing and teaching in Sheffield UK. & Professor Mehmet Sungur, an accredited Cognitive Behaviour therapist, is professor of Psychiatry in Istanbul, Turkey where he is regularly involved in training clinicians to use cognitive behavioural interventions for a wide range of clinical problems.
